A fine grey bloom on the floor near where the vacuum lives is the classic sign that outgoing air is escaping past the exhaust filter rather than travelling through it. The AIRBELT E3 Premium in pastel pink takes part 8249CZER for that panel, and shutting the route down is the whole of its job.
The moulding does one mechanical thing and does it constantly: it presses the exhaust filter flat into its recess so the media stays square against the housing. Warp it, crack it, or lose one clip and that pressure disappears. From then on the finest particles, which are the ones the exhaust stage exists to catch, follow the gap at the edge. Airflow through the machine is otherwise untouched, since the bag at item 21 of the AIRBELT E schematic, the pre-motor filter box at item 20 and the suction motor at item 9 all carry on exactly as before. Only the final barrier has been compromised.
Replacement is an outside job. The panel comes away with the filter, the new one seats in the same recess, and no part of the canister interior is disturbed.
