Return eligibility
Items must be unused, in new condition, and include their original packaging and all accessories. Machines that use water cannot be returned once unboxed, unless defective upon arrival.
Shipping and refunds
For non-defective returns, customers cover return shipping. Original shipping charges are nonrefundable. If your order included free shipping, our actual outbound shipping cost will be deducted from your refund. Eligible returns have no restocking fee.

Hoover part 47173015 is the electrical socket for the U5458 upright, and it carries across to the U6485100, U6485200, U6485300, U6485900 and UH50000 as well. A socket is a plug-in connection point in the machine's electrical path, the design choice that makes it a serviceable part instead of a permanent joint.
Sockets fail slowly and quietly. Heat from current draw and years of vibration work the contacts loose inside the housing, and the connection they make starts to depend on exactly how the wire is sitting rather than being solid every time. What shows up on the machine is intermittent behavior somewhere downstream, power that cuts in and out when the cord or handle is moved a certain way, or a component that keeps acting up even once the obvious part on the far side of the circuit has already been swapped.
That second scenario is the giveaway. If a new switch, cord, or motor brush has not fixed the fault, the socket feeding it is the next place to look before assuming the new part is defective. Gently moving the nearby wiring while the machine runs, carefully, and only to observe, can confirm the diagnosis before you commit to opening the housing for a full replacement.
