This black button assembly is what releases the dust cup on the .6-generation hand vacuum platform that Riccar sells as the Gem, Simplicity sells as the Flash, and Carpet Pro also carries under its own name.
The button sits under constant thumb pressure at every cup change, so over the years it either goes flat from wear or snaps right at the return spring.
