Part 53198A1 is a six-pack of the nut-and-bolt hardware that locks the handle tube onto the body of Eureka and Sanitaire uprights. It is inexpensive hardware, but it is almost always the fix when a handle develops play at the pivot.
Every push and pull loads the pivot with leverage, and years of that stress round off the threads or shear the bolt clean through. Once that happens the handle rocks side to side in its socket, which is tiring to push and, worse, sends that rocking force into the surrounding plastic instead of into solid hardware. Plastic cracks under repeated stress in a way fasteners do not, so a wobbly handle is worth correcting before it turns into a cracked housing.

On an older machine that has logged years of daily use, check the plastic around the joint for hairline cracks even after the new hardware is in, since a housing that has already been stressed can keep flexing under otherwise correct torque. A shop that services more than one of these uprights tends to keep a couple of packs on the bench, since the hardware wears out on a predictable schedule and rarely fails on just one machine at a time.
