Central vacuum pipe is dimensioned differently from plumbing pipe: it measures 2" on the outside diameter, while SCH-40 plumbing pipe has thicker walls and is measured by inner diameter. That distinction matters — only true central vacuum tubing mates correctly with central vacuum elbows, couplings, and valves. For installers and builders piping multiple homes, these 10-foot sticks mean fewer joints per run than shorter lengths.
